What is Academic IELTS?

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

It is a language testing system introduced by Cambridge and it has two testing partners IDP and BRITISH COUNCIL, those help Cambridge to conduct test.

This testing system has two categories called Academic IELTS and General IELTS.


Academic IELTS

Academic IELTS is for the International students those want to take admission in the International colleges or in colleges at English speaking countries like England, Canada, USA, Japan, Australia etc.

Further, this testing System has four methods to test the proficiency in the English Language. That is Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking test.

Listening (timing 30 minutes + 10 minutes extra)

Listening has four sections, each sections has different types of questions as if MCQs, fill-ups, diagrams, match the column, etc.

Reading (timing 60 minutes)

Reading has three paragraphs; each paragraph has different types of questions as if MCQs, fill-ups, diagrams, match the column, true false, yes no, etc. 

Note: You have to write your answers directly to answer sheet no extra time will be given to write answers on the answer sheets.

Writing (timing 60 minutes)

Writing has two tasks; Task 1 and Task 2.

Task1 (150 words)

In this task test taker have to define given Diagram, Pie chart, Table, Bar graph, Map etc. into the English, this explanation must in 150 or more words.   

Task2 (150 words)

In this task test taker have to write on given essay topic, this explanation must in 250 or more words. These essays can be in any form as pros/cons, agree/disagree etc.

Speaking (timing depends upon examiner/ mostly 15-20 minutes)

Speaking has three questioning methods; Introduction, Cue Card, Discussions.

Introduction (short answer type questions)

In this, examiner asks some introductory and general questions the main motive of these questions is to make you comfortable with the examiner   

Cue Card (speak on a topic for 2 minutes) / 1 minute extra is given before speaking on topic.

In this task test taker have to speak for a topic for 2 minutes, this explanation must relate to the given topic (Cue Card). These topics are related with health, life style, personal desires, person, place, thing, animal etc.

Discussion (short answer type questions)

In this, examiner asks some questions related to Cue Card topic and on some general discussion topics as same as Cue Card etc. The main motive of these questions is to check your Discussion skills with proficient English grammar.
